Mission Call

Post by faazshift on Thu Jan 21, 2010 3:13 am

So, a while back I talked about how I was preparing to go on a mission. Today I got my call. I will be going to the Virginia Richmond Mission on March 3. It should be fun. Any advice?

Even though we don't agree on some stuff I just wanted to let you know I admire you for the study you have done in your life to gain knowledge, you are already light years of many you will be paired up with.

My advice... remember to be humble in all things you do.

I served a mission, and though I have put many negative comments on this forum, the mission was rad. You will make friends for a lifetime. My biggest piece of advice is to not get discouraged because other missionaries know more than you or because they are more righteous or claim to be more spiritual. My least favorite missionaries weren't the slackers, but the missionaries who thought they were better than their companions.

Your Mission

Post by tigergoal99 on Tue Jan 26, 2010 4:31 am

Good luck! I have no idea about the LDS Mission experience. However, I will say that my Mom's whole side of the family is from Virginia. Many people in my family (a laundry list of them) went to the University of Virginia. Most of them graduated from there too. My parents married on the UVA grounds over 31 years ago! Please be safe. I hope that your two years will help you grow in your faith and help others. Good luck, again!

Emily:)

No, there was something wrong with the computer between my ears. Rolling Eyes When I replied to this thread I was thinking about another thread that had been started but to which nobody had replied.

Gongradulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I think back on my mission.. I think the greatest advice that I could give you is to not get discouraged! When I went out I had studied my heart out! And when I got to the Mission Home (Yes, I know that this dates me...) I began to realize just how much I DID NOT know!

Also, seek the spirit in all things and obey the Mission Rules.. they are there for a reason.

Don't be so caught up with the numbers game. My son recently returned from his mission and I was reading something that someone wrote to him and I really liked it! He said that your most important convert on your mission will be yourself!

Take the Institute Manuels with you! Your can really learn a lot from them. I tried to get my son to take them and he didn't so I slipped in the BofM Institute Manuel when he wasn't looking and it was about 2 months when he wrote home and asked for copies of all of them.

Don't be pushy with contact and DON"T BIBLE BASH!!!!! In my mission this was reason enough to be sent home.. after being warned of course. Some people just aren't ready or open to your message. Don't internalize it.. its not your fault.. But don't push to get them to change. Just leave seeds that can be looked upon later with good memories.. sometimes that the best that can be done.

WRITEaJOURNAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH how I have wished soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many times that I had done this! When you get my age and your memories start to fade.. oh how precious those written words will be to you and to you family and children also!... Please learn from my mistake and WRITE A JOURNAL!

Again... Congradulations... Your mission will be as good as you let it be. In church over the years I am sure you have heard the saying... My mission was the BEST TWO YEARS OF MY LIFE!!!!! Please understand upfront that this does not mean that you won't have trials and heartache and companions that you don't get along with.. because you will!!!!! deal with it!
I learned a quote years ago that goes something like this..
I walked a mile with gladness, she chatted all the way
But left me none the wiser for all she had to say.
I walked a mile with sorrow, and ne're a word said he
But oh the things I learned when sorrow walked with me!
It is the "best two years" because of the things you will learn and the growth in your testimony that being in that groove 24/7 for two years will give you.

God Be With You and enjoy!!!!!!

And now I cease my presence here. Really, thanks for all the advice. Feel free to comment still, but I probably won't see it for two years. I hope these forums become more lively and profitable. Good luck all!!!
